Each day my clients are bombarded with emails from companies saying their website needs to be redone, that they can help them climb the SERPs (search engine results page), or there are a host of errors on their website that only they can solve.
Small business week took place from April 30 through May 6, 2017, hosted by the Small Business Administration. What is Small Business Week? “Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year. As part of National Small Business Week, the U.S. Small Business Administration takes the opportunity to highlight the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs, small business owners, and others from all 50 states and U.S. territories.”

Looking back at the end of each year is a healthy process for each business owner, to see what is working, what is not, and what needs to be addressed in the coming year. Last year was a busy year for Startup Production as we added 19 projects to our portfolio with new published websites, and we worked with 54 local small businesses and several medium to large businesses. Our Internet Marketing services grew by 40% as companies see the need to not only have a great looking website but to promote their brand and web presences through engaging web content, consistent blogs, social media content, social media marketing and search engine marketing.
Looking back for entrepreneurs this time of year is a productive item on your end-of-the-year checklist. I like to look back this time of the year to reflect on what I did right, what I can learn from and what I need to change going forward. There were many changes for me personally during the year, as we sold our home in Richmond KY and moved to Lexington KY. My office location has been in Downtown Lexington for almost two years, but I also opened a second satellite (or virtual space) in Downtown Richmond. That way, I can still stay connected to the community I started my business when I moved to KY and am still deeply invested in.
Startup Production has been writing and posting original and engaging content for years now but that hard work is really beginning to pay off. We have had great success in 2016 with managing several of our client’s internet marketing content and ads. Myself and my team work hard to post original, engaging content marketing that is not the typical sales pitch but educates and entertains the target audience. And the results are staggering.
The past three months have been busy with speaking engagements and workshops that I’ve been invited to participate in. I’m so glad that through attendees of past presentations, I have been recommended to other local organizations. Although public speaking has been a challenge for me for many years, I have begun to not only get past the anxiety but to begin to enjoy it.
Every January, business owners take time to review their past years’ financials, marketing & other expenditures and percentages of growth or loss from the year before. In each area of review, each business owner asks, “How can I improve this year?” We are always looking for ways to fine tune, save money, improve on services and products and increase profit margins.
In 2016, Habitat for Humanity Madison Clark Counties will be hosting a Women Build! The last Women Build in Madison County was in 1999. So its time to empower women in our community to take the lead in fundraising (of $50,000) and in the construction of the new home. So ladies, pick up your hammer and start pounding the pavement to get donations. We Can Do This!
“True confidence is born of experiencing your hard work and seeing your hard work pay off.” Lorri Myers, Author & Entrepreneur
Looking back on 2015, I feel a true sense of accomplishment and a satisfaction looking back on my work and my contributions to various organizations. Why? Because of hard work, consistency and setting the bar high when it comes to the level of quality work I provide my customers. And as the quote above relays, hard work pays off. Also, I could not have done it without so many great friends, partners, active community leaders and my team at Startup Production.
