Why hire a Social Media Manager?

When it comes to social media management or marketing, many small businesses owners use an intern, an office assistant or just do it themselves. Some business owners don’t realize the impact your social media voice has on your brand, and most do not understand that there is a strategy to social marketing. Should you just do it yourself, have your niece or nephew, intern or spouse take their bit of extra time to post once a day?  Can using a professional social media manager really make a difference?  If so, why?

Can I use Facebook as my Company Website?

You can easily replace this question with any social media platform:  Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and/or LInked In.  Either way, the simple answer is ‘no’.  Why not? There are several reasons why companies (mostly new, startup companies) ask this question or use this as a reason why they don’t need a website.  First and foremost, starting a social media profile/page is free and you don’t need any professional design or development skills to at least set it up.  Second, you have a large audience base all ready at your fingertips – As of January 2014, 74% of online adults use social networking sites, with 71% of that audience on Facebook. (PEW Research Poll).  Third, you can post to it regularly and update your account as you need.

Having a Two-Way Conversation on Social Media

No one Enjoys a One-Way Conversation

Have you ever had a conversation with someone who dominated the conversation?  They talk over you, they only talk about themselves and their accomplishments, or when you talk they aren’t listening because their formulating what they’re about to say next.  You know someone like this, we all do.  And why is it so bothersome?  Not only is it rude but it shows a total lack of concern or interest in the other person in the conversation – you. People who engage in one-way conversations usually do not have many wanting to strike up a conversation with them.

Google’s Latest Update – Pigeon

Another Google Algorithmn Change?

Honestly, until a colleague (Thanks Anita!) told me that their placement on Google page ranking and the Google Carousel* literally disappeared and why, I had no idea that they released another update at the end of July 2014.  But why would you unless you had an issue?  They made no formal announcement, and they are continually making changes on a DAILY basis, approximately 500-600 per year.  This latest update is being termed “Pigeon” by Search Engine Land.

How to Promote your Blog Posts

Okay, you’ve done the research, wrote the post with original and engaging content, you’ve informed and entertained your target audience, you edited, revised, copied and added visual content.  And then … you hit PUBLISH.  And now you wait … and wait … and wait for your site to be read, liked, shared and commented on, but instead, your stats show NOTHING.
