ABOUT THE PROJECT
Mountain Association of Berea KY (formerly MACED) hired Startup Production to recreate the AAGGKY’s formerly Wix site to a fully functional, membership enabled, ecommerce WordPress website that was responsive, mobile friendly and told their story in a more visually-appealing, organized and engaging way, as well as attract more traffic and convert more visitors into members. Before we started with the design, we spent some time on rebranding starting with the logo redesign. Once the new logo design was approved, we went to work on the layout of the website, starting with the a fully SEO optimized homepage and public pages, then we began work on the MemberPress functionality integration, with various membership types, fees associated, the ecommerce and check out process, creating several applications for the various membership types, creating member exclusive content, creating auto-renewal and manual renewal memberships, adding the entire list of 60+ members to the system and verifying each member’s information was correct and their previous payments were applied. We completed the new website’s design and functionality up to 98% when the project was stalled and then transferred to another consultant, with the blessing of Startup Production.
In any case, when your client is not just one or two owners, but a full board, varying opinions can greatly impact the speed and effectiveness in a project. When a board hires a web developer or designer, it’s always recommended to have all the decisions regarding the brand direction, the content and layout of the website, and the functionality specifics decided BEFORE you meet with said designer to begin working. Also, it’s also recommended to have one point person, preferable the director or executive member of the board that can be the decision maker in smaller, less impactful decisions and approvals that keep the project moving in an orderly and timely fashion. As that point person changed hands several times through the development journey, it was finally decided to finalize the 2% of the project work that needed to be completed with another designer.
Startup Production was very excited to work with a group with such a worthy and interesting mission, and fully support the group’s efforts to education and research Kentucky’s African-American history, as we also became a member of AAGGKY.
